This is one of the most amazing teas I've ever tasted. Brewed at proper temperature, it is sweet, creamy, some mineral, vegetal - a bit nutty. Absolutely wonderful.
This green is shockingly similar to the oolong from the same farm. A super unique earthy flavor, great for someone who isn’t into the grassier, sharper greens. More tannic and nutty than an Asian green. I love it to change things up! Great to blow your friend’s minds: do a malawi green compared to this Waikato green! So different but still camellia sinensis!
Tasting Notes
The unique flavour of one the rarest and exquisite green teas lies somewhere between the succulent vegetal notes of buttery asparagus found in Japanese Sencha and the hazelnutty richness of Chinese Longjing.
A velvety soft mouth feel with notes of ripe gooseberries and pineapple cake.
Quantity
Use 0.07oz of leaf per 5.1fl oz of water. (2g per 150ml).
Temperature
For the optimum infusion use 176°F (70°C) water.
Time
Infuse for 1 - 2 minutes, tasting regularly.
Infusions
You can infuse this tea at least three times. With each careful infusion, different subtleties of flavor are revealed.
Cost Per Cup
75¢ per cup based on 0.07oz of tea per 5.1 fl oz of water and 3 infusions.
As with all our exquisite loose leaf green teas, we recommend using lower temperature water. For Waikato Green we'd recommend trying a lower temperature (around 65°C/149°F) and a longer steep (around 2 minutes), but please do experiment with higher temperatures and a shorter infusion to bring out the flavors you most enjoy.
